Re: Getting a puppy
My sister got a cockapoo and its adorable.

Comes with a warning tho - apparently they are very sought after by dog thieves, especially un-neutered dogs. They feel like they have to be on guard the whole time when walking it.

What's the difference between your dog and your wife?

If you lock them both in your car boot for four hours, when you open it your dog will be delighted to see you!

Re: Getting a puppy
I have a boxer staf cross, had her since a puppy, which we rescued from some local Romanians that were being forced to give up the litter. Had her 7 years and is 100% my favourite thing on the planet. 100% loyal, always really happy to see me, generally does as she is told.

Dogs are great, wife and kids can be cunts.

Get a Lakeland terrier. They look like the toy dogs that have wheels on

Re: Getting a puppy
I had a superb dog which was a cross between a Boxer and German Shepherd.

She had the snout and protective skills of the Shepherd but everything else was the lovable, silly nature of the Boxer.

Truly great with kids as well.

I miss her

We got a cockapoo, i know, in march time.

I have had dogs before and liked them and didn't think I needed a dog, the kids did.

Boy was i wrong, i have never loved an animal like this dog. She cost us a fucking fortune but you couldnt buy her off of me for 20 times what we paid. crazy

Have some 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in your medicine cabinet alongside the paracetamol.

With a plastic syringe squirt up to 1ml per pound of dog's weight into their mouth (not down their throat) and get them to swallow it. Normally within a couple of minutes they will throw up most of the contents of their stomach.

It shouldn't harm the dog - it irritates their digestive tract causing them to throw up - and it quickly decomposes to oxygen and water once inside them:
2*H2O2 --> 2*H2O + O2 (two hydrogen peroxide molecules decomposing into two water molecules and one oxygen molecule).

We've used it a couple of times on our black lab after he's eaten 4 of the kids Easter eggs or swallowed a plastic bag with sandwiches inside it.

Although he's now 9, I still only buy £10 glasses off the internet as he still chews them.

I like Springers but one thing that puts me off them is that they never seem to tire... 2 or 3 hours and they still seem they want to hare after whatever... probably why they can get destructive with chewing all sorts of stuff... we know with our sod that a good 45-60 off lead (obvs when he was younger) he'd come back... flake out... and literally not move until 5pm when it was grub time... no chance to demolish the house

The most important part is that of the Owner.

Re: Getting a puppy
What Heath said... we had our Lab trained regarding his shits and pisses within a week.... it meant a few hours standing out in the garden (on the GRAVEL not the GRASS) but as soon as he pissed or shat it was like he won the Gold medal in the 100m's... loads of praise and treats... they soon learn that if I shat on the kitchen floor I get fuck all and I get chews etc for shatting on the gravel then they shat on the gravel.... or even better... in the bushes over the farmers field.

My Hound never shat at home for about 10 years... al;ways at least 45-60 min a walk a day would empty his guts... however last few with his dementia and probably a loose bowel he does crap more at home... ALWAYS on the GRAVEL mind you...

Alfs

Apart from a phase of them being complete fucking idiots, if they are going inside, more likely than not it is down to them not getting out enough.

Take them outside every 30- 40 minutes whether they seem like they need to or not. If they do anything then give a decent treat. If not, try again in half hour……and repeat.

They soon get used to it, and while it’s a ball-ache it’s better than continuously cleaning up and wanting to throw the little fuckers out the window. Swt of course.

Re: Getting a puppy
Our pup is now 5 months old (German Shorthaired pointer) has been house trained and has now run off lead for the last month and hasn’t chewed anything other than pets toys, the simple secret is be stern, loads of rewards and loads of exercise, let the dog know who’s boss and do your best not to let your guard down.
Loads of training tips available on YouTube an American bloke “Scottie” explains dog mentality very well.
Best of luck.

Nutsin,

I know mate. My old Springer would have a wee every time the kids came home from school.

She's home today and is beautiful. Currently, fast asleep at my feet.

Three shits (in rapid succession) on the carpet so far. None on the two short walks outside.

Alfs, springers get excited easy and pee. I’m sure you know this already though.

Picking up Lulu, our new Springer this weekend. I feel like a nine-year-old waiting for Christmas.

Re: Getting a puppy
The biggest expense with my Springer was when she was a puppy and chewed fucking everything. 2 pairs of glasses, remote controls to every device a family of 6 would own, a whole box of paracetamol (£120 vet bill for making her sick), the children's toys, carpets, anything chewable, she'd decimate.

Loved her to bits though.
